The inaugural Crystal Lake Disability Pride Event launched in 2025 as a direct response to the need for visible, joyful disability representation in McHenry County. This first event brought the community together to celebrate the beauty, diversity, and lived experiences of people with disabilities.
A Note from Downtown Crystal Lake
The first annual Crystal Lake Disability Pride Event was a great success and a highlight of the month and year! When Sara of HLC Therapy Group approached us last year about organizing this event with the support of Downtown Crystal Lake, we were overjoyed to say YES!
When the ominous forecast threatened to ruin the day, several locations offered to open their doors and First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake (opens in a new tab) turned out to be the perfect spot for it.
What an amazing day celebrating the beauty, diversity, and visibility of people with disabilities, who make our community richer and fuller. We can't wait to watch this event grow in the years to come, and we're inspired to continue making Downtown Crystal Lake welcoming and accessible to everyone.
